When Your First Float Is Not So Great

July 21, 2017

After suffering from back pain for over 2 years, I finally decided to try floatation therapy. Since Baton Rouge did not offer this service, my husband and I drove to New Orleans, the closest city to offer floatation therapy, for a one-hour session.

Although I was a little scared, I jumped into the tank, shut the door and laid back in the water. Complete darkness - just me and my mind for one full hour. Tick tock. Tick Tock.

I really needed some relaxation, but my mind was going one hundred miles per hour. Did I forget to turn off my cell phone? What time is it? What will I eat for lunch? And a million other silly questions entered my mind.

I was in the float tank for no more than 20 minutes. I had to get out. Floating was definitely not for me!

My husband had a wonderful first float experience and talked about opening a float center in Baton Rouge. I knew that I had to enjoy floating if we decided to pursue his plan.

While attending a conference in Naples, Florida, I discovered another float center and reluctantly gave it another try. The second float was definitely better than the first. But I still had trouble turning off my brain.

On a trip to Dallas, we scheduled a float (my husband's second and my third) at @Peace Floatation & Massage. As soon as I walked into the facility, I was impressed with the relaxing environment, cleanliness and spacious float rooms. I showered, jumped in the float tub and turned off the lights. Complete darkness. And I floated away.

I really was "AtPeace" with my third float and was finally able to enjoy all the benefits of floatation therapy. The third time, I was hooked!

After sharing my experiences with others, I discovered I wasn't the only one who needed three sessions to "get it". This is the number one reason we offer the (3) 60-min Introductory Package, which is an amazing deal. First time floaters may be a little apprehensive and not know what to expect, making it difficult to fully relax. The second float is better, since the floater knows what to expect. Often, something amazing happens during the third float. You have to experience it for yourself to understand.

If you are one of the lucky ones who love floating at first float, a big high five to you!

For those who don't fall in love with floating on the first session, we encourage you to try it 3 times before deciding if floating is for you.
